Project Introduction
Empowering Language Competence and Professional Communication through an AI-based Language Laboratory (ALL)
Funded by the Quality Enhancement Support Scheme (QESS) under the Education Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR (Project Code: 02/QESS/2024), the Language Centre of the Hong Kong Shue Yan University launched the "AI-Based Language Laboratory" (ALL) on 1 January 2025. This project aims to enhance university students' Chinese and English writing skills through engaging adaptive artificial intelligence (AI) tools and curated learning resources, helping learners communicate more effectively in academic and professional settings.
Project Objectives
- • Identify, centralize, and expand access to AI learning tools and resources for enhancing students' Chinese and English writing proficiencies.
- • Design and utilize adaptive AI chatbots to facilitate and improve students' writing skills in various genres across multiple university courses.
- • Provide learning support content for students and teachers, in the form of resources such as user guides, instructional videos, and training workshops, to enhance awareness in the proper use of AI tools for educational purposes.
- • Conduct interdisciplinary evaluations and research in AI-assisted language education.
- • Disseminate the knowledge and experiences gained through establishing the current initiative to HKSYU students, teachers, the academic community in Hong Kong, and the public to facilitate and promote AI literacy and equality.
